The God who speaks • God’s exuberance • God’s Word • Jesus is the Truth • Jesus is the faithful and true witness
God’s words are not words and sentences about Himself; His Word is Himself. His Word brings Himself to us — not information to us. In Jesus, who is His Word, He delights to meet with us and to be with us.
Scripture reading
Revelation 3:14
This call to worship is from the book called Revelation. In the third chapter of this book, there’s a letter written to a physical, local assembly of believers, like ours here in Beaverdam1. And that letter starts with this sentence, a sentence about Jesus Christ.
These are the words of the one who is the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the ruler of God’s creation.
Prayer
Father in heaven, great is your Word. It isn’t that you happen to be able to speak. Instead, it is of your very nature to speak. You cannot be… word-less, because the Word is God. You are an uncontainable God of exuberance and abundance who cannot be anything but communicative, expansive and outgoing. Father, your words are not words and sentences about you; your Word is you. Your Word brings you to us — not information to us. This morning, we haven’t gathered here to come away with more information about you. Instead, in Jesus, who is your Word, you delight to meet with us and to be with us. And here we are, gathered here to be with you. And as Jesus promised, Father, it is he that is here, in the center of our meeting — not words appearing for a moment on screens; not words preached and then forgotten. It’s your Word — the one who is the Amen — who is steady and unchangeable in all his purposes and promises, who is true and certain and faithful. In Him, Father, there is no conjecture, or guess-work. And everything that he affirms is true; And everything that he promises is certain. He is the source of all certainty and truth. He is the faithful and true witness, who speaks what He knows, and testifies to what He has seen — whose testimony of you to us is to be received and fully believed, and whose testimony of us to you, Father, will be fully believed and regarded. And he is the Beginning of your creation — the first-born from the dead. And he has raised up dead souls — us, here today — to be a living temple and church to himself. This is why we are here. We gather around The Amen.
This call to worship was given to the small assembly of Christians that gathered in Pathway Church, Beaverdam, Michigan, on Sunday, October 3, 2021.
