God has given to us the life of His Son, Jesus — His resurrected life, and now our New Life. And He enables our lives and our worship to be like His.
Scripture reading
John 4:23
This call to worship1 comes from Jesus' words in John’s gospel to a rather interesting woman he meets alone at a well.
The time is coming— indeed it’s here now— when true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and in truth. The Father is looking for those who will worship him that way.
Prayer
Father in Heaven, we’re here to worship you, in Spirit and in Truth, guided by your indwelling Holy Spirit. Thank you for giving to each of us the life of your Son, Jesus — his resurrected life, and now our New Life. As he walked the earth in humble dependence upon you so many years ago, he proclaimed that the time had come when true worshipers would worship you in spirit and truth. And what he said was true because it was him who had come and he was the perfect example of a worshipper — a man living as you intended man to live, delighting in you, walking in spirit and truth, living in total dependence upon you and always in willing submission to the Spirit. Father, enable our lives and our worship this morning to be like his. We ask this in the name of Jesus, the one who worshiped you as you deserve. Amen.
